If you're a fan of movies, then chances are you'll have seen a Hamilton watch featured in it. Huge blockbusters such as Interstellar, Men In Black and Ocean's 8 have all featured Hamilton watches, making Hamilton a firm Hollywood favourite with over 500 movie credits to their name.

The Hamilton Khaki Field is a one of the brands most popular styles, inspired by the military life it is durable, lightweight and super readable. That's why it's our top pick for an everyday watch. But we always back up our claims with proof, so we had to show you exactly why we think the Hamilton Khaki Field is the ultimate everyday watch. We took our Hamilton watch out for an adventure in the stunning Scottish countryside.

The Setting

Ben A'an is one of Scotland's most famous mountains for the stunning views you can get from the top. Situated between Kilmahog and Aberfoyle in the Trossachs area of Scotland, around an hour from Glasgow. Sitting at 454m high and a 3.7km distance walk and a walking time of a total 6-8 hours, this was certainly the challenge for the Hamilton Khaki Field. Unlike when we tested the Glashutte Sea Q, this time we set off up the mountain in the daylight, soon to encounter fog and mist as we ascended further up the mountain. Luckily by the top, the majority of the fog had cleared to allow us to take in the incredible views of Loch Katrine and Loch Achray.

What Were We Looking For In A Watch?

Like we mentioned earlier, in our books, an everyday wearer has to be comfortable, functional and durable, while also being aesthetically pleasing, so we were looking out for those factors while out on our climb.

Military Influence

The design of the Hamilton Khaki Field was heavily inspired by military life and combat which is a notable in the design of this watch. This is an original and simplistic military watch which can really be seen in the face of the watch. It's not just the design that is thought through with military influence either, the watch casing is made from matte stainless steel. This was done as the more common polished steel would shine and glint in the light and in the military you would want to remain discreet and subtle to not draw any attention. This really shows attention to detail from Hamilton.

While out and about either day-to-day or out hiking in the great outdoors, we noticed that the design was never too overpowering. The Khaki Field goes with everything, sporty, casual or dressed up, and while our Khaki Field has a super comfortable khaki green NATO strap, it can be switched out for other straps and bracelets making it super versatile.

The Comfort Factor

Comfort is ultimately one of the biggest factors to consider when choosing your everyday watch. It needs to be a good fit for your wrist, comfortable strap, and you need to have peace of mind that the watch you choose can handle your everyday life, scuffs, scratches and all. The Hamilton Khaki Field is 9.5mm thick, meaning it sits closer to the wrist and prevents the dents, bumps and scratches that come with everyday wear, and boy were we grateful for that on our hike up Ben A'an where we encountered rocky forest trails on the ascent.

The dial size itself is a comfortable 38mm and lug to lug the watch is 47mm, so slightly smaller than the average men's watch on the market today, but a really ideal size for having under layers of clothes and also if you prefer a less bulky, big watch.

As we mentioned previously, the Hamilton Khaki Field comes with an interchangeable strap meaning you can switch from a more casual textile NATO strap to perhaps a formal leather strap. Hamilton's intention behind the interchangeable strap is that when the strap is changed, the feel of the watch does too, which we would completely agree with. The NATO strap on the Khaki Field we took out exploring felt rugged and outdoorsy, like it was meant to be a hiking, sporty watch. However we can see how this watch would be transformed with a leather or steel bracelet to be the smart office style, or the out for dinner style. The versatility brings another level of comfort in knowing that you will receive the most use for your money out of this watch.

Movement in Focus

The Hamilton Khaki Field houses the H50 movement, a hand wound mechanical movement used in Hamilton watches. While it does require manually winding the movement as opposed to a fully automatic style, the power reserve on this watch is an incredible 80 hours. Compared to a lot of luxury styles which perhaps only grant up to 40 hours power reserve, the Hamilton's 80 hour reserve is definitely a major selling point for this watch. We loved how when out and about for the day, we didn't have to worry at all about the watch, we were confident that it would still be running perfectly whenever we needed it.

Our Final Thoughts

It's clear how great we think the Hamilton Khaki Field is, it's durable for everyday wear and tear, comfortable to wear as it's not too big and has interchangeable straps, and it's just a great looking watch! Not to mention the quality of materials and the amazing M50 movement that this watch has. We think that the quality of product you are receiving for £395 is absolutely unbeatable, and that is why it's our choice for our everyday wearer.
