Bram Stoker’s superb depiction of scenery and the appearance of Dracula takes the reader’s breath away even today. The Writers Edition captures this ill-omened atmosphere with its choice of colour for the cap and barrel, where the apparent intermingling of red and black precious resin signals impending danger. Immortalised amidst the swirling pattern on the cap is the signature of Count Dracula’s literary father. Inspired by the traces left behind by his vampire bite, the ruthenium-coated clip tapers elegantly and, at the same time, echoes the shape of an historic Montblanc fountain pen clip. Two markings on the clip ring suggest the vampire’s ‘bite marks’.

The shape of this writing instrument is a nod to a milestone in medical technology, the Pravaz syringe, which was operated by a screw mechanism. Similarly, the decorative elements of the fittings resemble those of a classic Victorian writing instrument, much like the one which Bram Stoker would have used to pen his works. While the author did not live to experience the worldwide fame of his iconic character, he alone deserves the honour of the Writers Edition Homage to Bram Stoker. In acknowledgement of this achievement, an intricate embossed detail from his family coat of arms adorns the handcrafted, ruthenium-coated solid Au 750 gold nib.
