A shape that is instantly recognizable, even as a mere shadow: in what marks its most creative reimagining of a timeless classic, IWC Schaffhausen unveils the Portugieser Chronograph Ceratanium®. Released in a limited edition of 1,500 pieces, this all-black execution of the iconic chronograph combines a Ceratanium® case with a black dial and a black textured rubber strap.

Its 41 mm Ceratanium® case, paired with a black dial, hands, and appliques, rests on a black rubber strap with a Ceratanium® pin buckle for a lighter, tougher, cleaner feel. By removing every trace of colour, the design is reduced to its pure form, allowing the chronograph’s sculptural character to come fully into focus. Because less really is more.

The Portugieser Chronograph Ceratanium® marks the first time IWC has used this advanced material in the Portugieser collection. Developed by IWC’s engineering division XPL, Ceratanium® combines the advantages of titanium and ceramic – two materials that have shaped IWC’s history. The components are machined from a special titanium alloy and fired at high temperatures in a kiln. During this process, the surface acquires properties similar to ceramic, such as extreme hardness and scratch resistance, as well as its distinctive dark, metallic finish.
