Watch Review: Rado Captain Cook Bronze Burgundy R31505313
- 17 Dec 2020
Known as the Master of Materials, this week Rado has released the Captain Cook Bronze in a striking burgundy. This watch is exclusive to Chisholm Hunter. Before we get into the finer details of this majestic burgundy beauty, it is only fair that we touch on the Captain Cook collections history.
The Captain Cook collection if part of Rado's exciting Tradition' collection; featuring watches inspired by the original Rado pieces from the 1950's and the 60's. Drawing on all of the great elements that made the 1962 original timepiece a roaring success and one of Rado's most iconic pieces, using signature materials that have appeared on all favourite Rado models throughout the years. This new Captain Cook collection brings all Rado's milestone moments together with maximum impact; vintage detailing and styling that is true to the original, this timepiece includes features that make it a match for today's modern watch wearers.
This particular Captain Cook model features an inverted bezel, made from burgundy and highly durable high-tech ceramic. In this watch, probably the most fun piece of Rado DNA is the free-swinging anchor that is part of the brand's logo placed under 12 o'clock. The anchor moves around a pivot point, just an automatic rotor would, and this is where Rado stands out from other brands; they are not afraid to take a risk or create something new and continually stay true to their roots as a pioneer and leader in the watch industry.
The date window which appears at 3 o'clock is not just your regular date window, but instead a bespoke silver-coloured date disc with red coloured numerals. The sapphire crystal is domed on the dial which contrasts against the inverted bezel to give you a striking appearance. Combined, the design of the dial, crystal, and the hands together, allows this Captain Cook dial to effectively play with the light, but to also maintain high levels of readability. The dial also features yellow gold coloured applied indexes which adds to the vintage look and contrasts wonderfully with the dial.
Moving on to the strap, this model is presented on a burgundy textile NATO strap with a central gold coloured line, which not only looks wonderful but feels just like a high-quality strap should.
This model does not use a display case back but instead has inscribed in the back the revolving seahorses and stars motif that has been seen on Rado dive watches before. This model comes with a water resistance of a staggering 300 metres and uses Rado's 763 automatic movement, which gives a whopping 80-hour power reserve.
This Rado Captain Cook Bronze Burgundy model is not only stylish and cool but also functional and durable as all Rado watches are designed to last a lifetime. It is the kind of watch you look at and smile instead of being afraid to wear it. Resilient, well-made but most of all it is a cracking Christmas present and a must have for those looking to make a bold style statement.
