- 28 Mar 2021
Today, we are going to be taking a closer look at the incredible A. Lange & Sohne Zeitwerk. Now, let us get a little more personal with this incredible model.
The Zeitwerk is the first mechanical wristwatch that displays the time digitally with large numerals, that always allows for incredible legibility. Looking closely at this model, you can see that all numerals are identical in size and arranged for natural left-to-right reading; this really adds to the A. Lange & Söhne renowned harmony and balance in watchmaking. The space between the time bridge, and the power reserve indication balances the big seconds sub dial and aesthetically it is quite striking.
Now, there were two intentions while designing the Zeitwerk: one of which was creating a unique face and in this area A. lange & Söhne have succeeded. Secondly, they wanted to place the hours and minutes horizontally, as we read, which again was a giant success and they really set the trend for the industry.
Taking a little look closer at the details on this model, it comes with an 18ct white gold case, the dial is solid silver, and the hands are rhodium gold. If you are passionate about watchmaking and are clued up on your timepieces, then you know what incredible craftsmanship it takes to fashion a timepiece from lots of different precious metals. The dial is a striking black with large clear white windows.
The case measurements come in at 41.9mm in diameter and just touches 12.6mm in height. It is a little bigger than what most watch wearers will be used to, but if we are honest this timepiece suits it. It sits incredibly on the wrist and wonderfully over a shirt cuff and when you think about it the thickness is justified as it makes way for the most incredible movement we may have ever seen.
Turning this model over the fantastic movement is revealed and wow it is stunning. The movement measures a total of 33.6mm in diameter and comprises 415 parts. Within this small area, one can find a myriad of finishing techniques from perlage to free-hand engraving to mirror polish. The Calibre L043.1 houses 36 hours of power and this movement is covered by scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass, so you do not miss out on any of the watchmaking genius visible though the underbelly.
As a whole, the A. Lange & Söhne is not just a luxury timepiece. It is a piece of art; every detail is precise and deliberate. Nothing has been overlooked and it is a truly hand-crafted sculpted watchmaking genius.
