Chisholm Hunter Helps Raise £57,000 for Spina Bifida on Burn's Night
- 27 Jan 2018
With the traditional haggis and dram of whisky, Burn's Night is an opportunity to celebrate the legacy of the great Scottish bard. But for Chisholm Hunter, this evening is more than just an excuse to enjoy a night of Scottish splendour. For the past 10 years, the company has chosen to spend the evening honouring not only the poet Robert Burns, but also the exemplary work of Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland at the charity's annual A question of Burns fundraiser dinner.
The stellar event, hosted by former Scottish international rugby player Andy Nichol at the Hilton Glasgow hotel, saw 500 guests attend an evening of poetry, with a lavish four-course dinner washed down in the traditional fashion with a dram of Glen Scotia Malt whisky.
The evening's entertainment included performances by stand-up comedian Bruce Fummey, who recited Tam o' Shanter, while Lord Robertson of Port Ellen narrated The Immortal Memory in tribute to Burns. Glasgow-born soprano singer Charlotte McKechnie concluded the night with a touching performance of Burn's Auld Lang Syne.
Guests could also take part in a quiz on all things Rabbie Burns and bid on prizes including a luxury holiday to Sri Lanka in a silent auction.
As sponsors of this fabulous night, Chisholm Hunter was delighted to donate an exquisite pair of 18ct white gold and diamond cluster drop earrings worth more than £1,500 as part of the grand prize draw. An astounding £57,000 was raised for the charity, which supports those affected by spina bifida hydrocephalus and related conditions.
Established over 50 years ago to provide advice, information and practical help to those affected with the condition and their families, SBH Scotland's work is an inspiration.
Proud as ever of its long association with SBH Scotland, this year Chisholm Hunter had even more to celebrate, with this Burn's night marking a decade of sponsoring the event. Commenting on this special relationship, the company's managing director and CEO Harry Brown said: Chisholm Hunter has been proud to watch our relationship with SBH Scotland progress and develop over our 20 year association. Our pride and faith in this charity stems from the profound positive impact that it has directly on the lives of 3500 families affected by Spina Bifida, Hydrocephalus, or related conditions. We hope to continue to show the same commitment to Spina Bifida that they continuously demonstrate to each of their members.
Recognising the importance of the Burns night event, several Scottish newspapers also covered this event. To read more about it please click on the links below.
